Albert Drive Community Mural
A Tramway Beyond Walls project
Realised in partnership with our neighbours the Gurdwara and community groups in Pollokshields, Tramway is installing a large-scale community mural on Albert Drive, opposite the venue. We have commissioned Glasgow based mural artist Molly Hankinson to realise a co-authored community mural which celebrates the diverse stories, histories and cultures of Pollokshields and reflects ideas of neighbourliness, unity and solidarity.
The mural is expected to be completed in early October 2024.
Funded through The Art Fund's ‘Respond and Reimagine’ grant, the new mural is part of Tramway's ongoing Tramway Beyond Walls strand. It follows on from a project to create joyful public spaces for communities, initially through the revitalisation of local green spaces on Lesley Street through a series of benches, planters and murals commissioned by Southside artists.
This project aims to create a vibrant and welcoming entrance to Albert Drive high street, and create a shared cultural asset for the community of Pollokshields at the threshold of the neighbourhood. In particular, the work celebrates the identities and stories shared by local women’s groups and young people developed through a series of workshops.
