As human beings, we are complex and impressive machines, consisting of 57% water and 43% other matter. But if we rely on a physician’s checklist to measure our human capacity, then we might all submerge and drown…

43 Percent is a dynamic new
multi-media work by Gary Gardiner
and Ian Johnston in which they
explore the medical and social definitions of being human. Using dance, video, movement and spoken word,
the work considers our bodies and the water contained within them, and how a
medical world view might quantify, measure and sum us up – are our dancing
bodies more than the sum of their parts?
43 Percent is a Tramway
co-commission, following on from the company’s successful Unlimited Commission
Dancer in 2014, which was presented at Southbank, FIERCE Festival, BAC, People
Dancing Festival, Behaviour Festival, The Place and Edinburgh Festival Fringe
2016.
