Collaboration between Candoco Dance
Company, UK and NCA.Small Theatre, Armenia.
Supported by British Council, British
Embassy in Yerevan, Ministry of Culture of Armenia and Saint Sarkis Charity
Trust.
“Hiraeth”, a Welsh word, expresses
the idea of homesickness - a longing to return to a home or land that one has
possibly never seen. Words expressing the idea of homesickness and a lost
belonging exist in a number of languages, which proves the phenomenon to
be universal and as war, exile and the need for asylum increase, the need
for and use of these words may find their way back into everyday
language. This production is presented by Armenia's first integrated
dance project bringing together disabled and non-disabled performers who
have collaborated to tell a story of the painful, yet remarkable journey of the
Armenian people throughout their history: their yearning for a lost homeland
and their efforts for regaining an identity in a new country.
Choreographed by
Jemima Hoadley, Candoco Artist. Rehearsal Director Teni Matian. Sound score by
Vardan Harutyunyan. Art advisers: Vahan Badalyan, Artistic Director, NCA. Small
Theatre; Stine Nilsen, Artistic Co-Director, Candoco Dance Company; Seta White,
Performing Arts Consultant.
