Marc Brew Company: MayBe
In an international co-creation between Natalia Mallo, Gisele Calazans (Brazil) and Glasgow-based Marc Brew, MayBe explores how chance encounters can act as catalysts of possibility, including the possibilities of love and intimacy.
In June 2015, dancer and choreographer Marc Brew and Brazilian dancer Gisele Calazans participated in a creative residency at the Museum of Image and Sound, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The encounter was a spontaneous combustion of bodies: movement and risk: affection and trust. In January 2016 they met again for a week of rehearsals at Tramway, going deeper into movement research, dramaturgy and starting to develop the access strategy. Last June the project finished the creative process and had its Brazilian premiere at Sesc Consolação in Sao Paulo.
MayBe, developed in collaboration with Musician Natalia Mallo and Lighting Designer Mirella Brandi, uses lighting as a third dancer, making real-time choices, outlining the bodies and reshaping the space.
MayBe is about encounters and the inevitability of love. It is about what might be and about instances of doubt. Attraction, rejection, crossing paths and departures are all metaphors for the liquidity of relationships in the contemporary world.
