John Metcalfe: Tree with Lucie Hendry & Justyna Krzyżanowska: Flora and Fauna
John Metcalfe brings a rare live performance to Glasgow’s innovative and inspiring Tramway of his latest album Tree, out on Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records.
Coupled with gorgeous visuals from Jony Easterby, the music reflects an imagined 24-hour cycle in the life of a tree experienced by observing the ever-shifting interplay of light, colour and sound whilst exploring the intense and mystifying effect trees have on us all; our relationship with their physicality, their essence, and their importance to the future of our planet. Joining John on stage are some of the UK’s finest string players who have played on countless Hollywood film scores and with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé and Coldplay.
Flora and Fauna is an innovative multinational quartet led by harpists Lucie Hendry (Scotland) and Justyna Krzyżanowska (Sweden), joined by Ida Hellsten (Sweden) on bass, and Christoffer Skovhus (Denmark) on drums. Their original music blends folk, classical, and jazz influences with the legends and myths of the British Isles, Scandinavia, and Medieval Slavic cultures.
Flora and Fauna’s exploration of the tangible and mythical worlds bring life to the creatures of ancient bestiaries - artistic collections of stories about the world's wildlife and plant life. Listeners will embark on an unexpected journey through a modern day musical bestiary.
