Joel Brown and Eve Mutso: 111
Part of Tramway's Unlimited Festival 2018
111 is a duet between a paraplegic modern dancer, Joel Brown (CandoCo and Axis Dance) and principal ballerina, Eve Mutso (formerly Scottish Ballet). It explores the idea of the body and physical structures – our skeletons, Joel’s wheelchair and the set (a large scaffolding cage), how they can interact and the oscillation of power, control and vulnerability between them.
See this powerful new work in its final stages of development.
Joel and Eve have a mutual curiosity towards choreography and are collaborating in the choreography.
“I see my wheelchair as an integral part of my physicality and I celebrate its empowerment to me. Similarly, the structures of the biological skeleton and how it moves; how my hands and arms bring my legs along dancing on the floor.” Joel Brown.
Eve Mutso was nominated by the Critics Circle for the 2015 National Dance Award for Outstanding Female Performance (Classical).
