This Is A Wasteland
A performance through headphones for a disused urban space.
We gather in the spill of the city - somewhere in between and left behind. You’re given headphones and offered instructions amidst a constantly shifting soundscape that is delicate and empty in one moment, infectious and playful the next. As day dips towards night we will make things with our hands. Many worlds are created, destroyed, re-purposed, re-imagined in this generous playground built by everyone.
Is this a Waste Land? invites us to consider how we value space, waste, home, belonging and community.
How do we decide what a piece of land is worth?
What makes us feel like we belong?
How can we be together?
Bring an object to donate to the performance. This could be anything from an old bucket to a piece of wood, bike tyre or paint brush – you choose.
Disclaimer: This is an outdoor performance on a disused, unmaintained site - expect the ground to be uneven (so please wear sturdy shoes). Please dress for the weather - we would hate for you to get cold or wet.
Access: If you have access needs we will do our very best to accommodate you. This can’t be guaranteed. Call the box office and speak to us before you book.
Is this a Waste Land? was funded using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
