NB - this show starts at 7.30pm on both dates.
'It's a knockout and the whole company is marvellous in it'★★★★★ (The Independent)
'Enchanting double bill' ★★★★ (The Guardian)
"..a well-contrasted double bill that offers drama and some altogether glorious romantic fun."★★★★ (The Times)
Audiences can’t resist the ‘joyously unpredictable’ programmes danced by Ballet Black, back at Tramway for the second time, with a brand new double bill.
Renowned British choreographer Cathy Marston, choreographs a new narrative ballet for the Company. Based on Can Themba’s South African fable The Suit, this is the first dance adaptation of the affecting short story.
Completing the evening is Arthur Pita’s Olivier-nominated A Dream Within a Midsummer Night’s Dream, described as ‘charming and hilarious’ by Dance Europe magazine. The production mixes classical and contemporary to distill the essence of Shakespeare’s comedy, unfolding to an eclectic soundtrack that includes Eartha Kitt, Barbra Streisand and Yma Sumac. Performing it, ‘the company have never looked better’ (Independent).
Led by Artistic Director Cassa Pancho, Ballet Black celebrates dancers of black and Asian descent, showcasing technique, precision and grace in specially commissioned pieces.
