Ivor MacAskill - True Scotsman

Residency 17 to 22 February

Ivor MacAskill’s Studio residency is Research and Development for a new solo show exploring gender and identity. It continues and expands themes from his award-winning, internationally-touring performance, The Making of Pinocchio, made with his partner Rosana Cade, originally at Tramway for Take Me Somewhere 2021.

Through a queer and trans lens,The Making of Pinocchio asked what it takes to be a ‘real boy’ and True Scotsman grows towards becoming a ‘real man’, and a Scotsman at that. The new piece will be a sort-of sequel to the “very
funny and very naughty” (The Guardian) STUD, made in 2015.

Ivor will be supported by Rosana Cade and producer Sarah Gray. He will explore how to make the process (and his artistic career) sustainable in light of new understandings of his neurodivergence.

Previously supported by Sanctuary Queer Arts and Theatre Royal Dumfries. This R and D is supported by Creative Scotland’s Open Fund for Individuals.
