Katrine Turner
An alternative helpline for the end of the world
Katrine Turner is a Glaswegian artist working with live performance and film. She creates work concerned with speculative futures, the climate crisis and the end of capitalism.
In Autumn 2020, like thousands of the newly unemployed, Katrine ended up taking a temporary contract as an outsourced Call Handler on the Coronavirus Response Helpline. Inspired by this experience, she developed a new performance, An alternative helpline for the end of the world, a one-on-one telephone performance which explores the use of outsourced call handlers, computer algorithms and how capitalism creates the opportunity to profit from crisis.
An alternative helpline for the end of the world took place from 24-26 May 2021.
