Sponges and Spatulas

Residency Monday 5 August to Saturday 10 August 2024

This residency supports the development of Sponges and Spatulas, a Dungeons and Dragons-inspired play set in two worlds with a script in British Sign Language (BSL).

With a focus on creative access, it explores queer/trans and deaf/hearing relationships, confronting inner fears and internalised ableism.

Sponges and Spatulas is created by Deaf, neurodiverse, queer non-binary writer Bea Webster, in collaboration with Deaf, queer director Ciaran Stewart and a group of Deaf and disabled BSL-using actors.

During this residency, they will be collectively devising the script.

This is an Unlimited UK Open Award 2024 commission made possible thanks to funding from Creative Scotland.
