Will Dickie - Feeling Words (Working Title)

Resident 30 September to 5 October 2024

'I want to write and dance at 3 intersections: Of sounds and words, performer and spectator, me and you. The politics is the question of empathy. How are we communicating and understanding each other in this era of fragmentation? As tensions escalate, more and more weight is given to words people choose – statements, testimonies, posts, bills, slogans, signs etc... I want Feeling words to de-throne verbal calculations and dance with feelings that lie beneath, in all their rawness and absurdity.

For this project I will research material for theatres/gig spaces that uses movement and voice to play with audience/performer relationships. I will ask how sounds, words and movements transform, combine and communicate. I want to find a lo-fi style that feels at home in a spoken word/stand up context as well as on stage. A collection of dance word poems.'
